Oxalis Books was founded in April, 2020 by author Reid C. Newlin. Oxalis Books is a small publishing house that prints primarily children’s picture books, along with graphic merchandise such as t-shirts, stickers, and bookmarks. We seek to collaborate with other small community-based groups and organizations such as book stores, open air markets, musicians, and writers.

Friendship

Our stories often center around friendships between characters. Similarly, our products are produced by close friends. Our contracted illustrators, graphic designers, editors, and even marketers are long time friends of the founder/lead author of the company. This ensures that products are made with care and thoughtful collaboration.

Play

Children read stories for the same reason they run around a playground; they want to stimulate their imaginations. For this same reason, we develop stories that focus on joy and playfulness, even while discussing more difficult themes. Just as what is inside the pages is fun, we strive to make the creative process equally enjoyable. When authors, illustrators, and designers have fun making the product, the product ultimately becomes of a higher quality.

Growth

The purpose of storytelling is to grow, whether emotionally, intellectually, or communally, growth is a defining characteristic of the characters we bring to life. When our characters grow, so do our readers. And as our readers grow, so do we as creators. And when we creators grow, so do our characters. This cycle is what fuels our art and will ultimately bring readers back to us and our stories.

Oxalis Books engage young readers with progressive social values that celebrate the possibilities of playful, integral, and collaborative futures.
